Simple STEM for Kids (9-12 years)

Light to Sound Conversion

As Light waves emitted by RGB ‘smart’ LED varies its intensity level (amplitude) and color (frequency), the frequency and intensity level (amplitude) of outputted  sound waves change. We can expect a sharper pitched acoustic signal from blue dominated (higher frequency towards UV side) light waves and shriller sounds when light turns reddish (shifts towards low frequency IR end of spectrum.

Graphite layer as Conductor of Electricity

Some thought-provokers in K-12 STEM students

  • 1) Is resistance encountered between terminals (resistance in circuit) due to graphite related to sound characteristics (pitch and amplitude) from Bumble Beep! Of course lower resistance  increases current and enhances sound signal. But in what way?

  • 2) In case of moveable terminal (croc clip) sliding straight axially over an ECG or other signal with varying wavelength and amplitude, it  shall encounter ‘points’ in a special fashion. Closer beeps when curves are clustered together (less wavelength) and vice-versa. Is  this of any application?

Hands-on Air Purifier Prototyping

Setting pitch on fan to installing it inside a discarded (but cleaned!) hepa air filter procured from junkyard. Please see PDFs below-
